The Dog Stop

Vicki and her family had a dream about three decades ago to restore a hot dog stand near St. Patrick's High School on Chicago's northwest side. Vicki Bertucci Elmore reflects on the business they've built, the clients they've gratified, and the community they've nurtured twenty-eight years later. The Dog Stop's homemade soups and Italian beef, as well as other menu staples, have been accompanied by Vienna Beef hot dogs, polish sausage, and other goods. They've never shied away from charitable and community events, such as St. Pat's and St. Baldrick's, Fenwick High School, and softball and Little League sponsorship. They've collaborated on numerous projects with Lt. Johnny Garrido and the 16th Precinct, as well as the 25th Precinct.Vicki's son, Joe Bertucci, has taken over the business in the last year after growing up in the family business and earning a college diploma, a Master's degree, and teaching certifications. Joe has introduced new concepts, such as their monthly hot dog program and his involvement with the Illinois Restaurant Association. The Dog Stop was also given the 25th District Recognition Award.
