"On May 16, 1978, Joe Angelastri launched City Newsstand, a corner newsstand that would become Chicago's largest magazine store and one of the country's largest newsstands. The birth of City Newsstand! Joe received the surprising news that the Chicago-Main Newsstand had closed owing to a rent dispute five years later, with the store totally converted to magazines. Joe first heard stories in 1999 that the City of Evanston was interested in buying the historic Chicago-Main Newsstand with the intention of demolishing it and expanding the park to the south.
